Hi all. Just had a dreadful day with my 5 year old son, whom I adore. I heard my 9 year old daughter screaming( worst scream I ever heard from her!) today, he had sat on her chest and strangled her with both hands! And when she finally got away, he grabbed her and bit her on the back. My daughter hadn't hit out or fought back throughout their argument (as we don't believe in smacking or anything), but he had slapped and kicked, which I have caught him doing before. But the strangling!! I am gutted. Of course I punished him, only to find my 1 year old with a bump on her head, crying, and I feel he then pushed her to the ground, even though he denies it. And this evening again, at bedtime, he deliberately sang as loud as possible in his bed to waken the 1 year old, not a major thing I know, but it has just topped off this day. I have seen him strike out before, and bite, and always pull him up on it. He is generally a very helpful young guy, loving, sweet, clever, no probs at school. But this aggressive streak rears its ugly head, and today has just been beyond belief. My poor 9 year old has taken quite a lot from him, and bless her was extremely upset about what happened. I am so afraid that this will continue.

Has he just started school?

Perhaps that is getting to him a bit, and he has a lot of pent-up steam to get rid of.
