What art materials do you feed your child?

I have a 18ish month old DS(2) who will eat whichever art materials I put in front of him. While I accept they're non-toxic, I can't imagine they're safe for constant ingestion.

Does anyone have any tips for getting him to stop?! He has so far tried chalk, crayons, pencil crayons and felt tips (sucking the ink and on one occasion biting the nib off...) but nothing seems to taste that bad for him!!

Getting beyond a joke as he always wants to join in with 3yo DS1 but I just can't enjoy it with him!!! This may just be teething but it's hard work!!

Mine used to eat paper, mostly, which is at least cheaper.

I got some interesting looks when baby DS ate the shopping list on the way round the supermarket, though.

Mine eat everything but I've found Aquadoodle to be really good, its only water although they still suck the 'pen' so no worries about any nasties and Playdoh, tried to eat it only once, guess it tastes really yuck.

DS's nursery get them to paint with food sometimes - e.g. chocolate or yogurt. Have never tried that at home as it just sounds too messy!

My Mum used to cut up fruit and veg like carrots, apples or celery into shapes and we would dip them in water mixed with food dye to stamp shapes onto paper. It was one of my favourite rainy days activities when I was a little'un!

Playdoh obviously doesn't taste bad enough for my DS!! Will often pop the lid off with his teeth and grab a few lumps for a snack. Maybe I'm just not feeding him enough...

The food dye stamping idea is fantastic though, and the chocolate painting. Have used the Aquadoodle but he tends to suck it and just gets upset when I take it away!!!
