15 month old pooing several times a day, often painfully and waking up to poo - advice please!

Hello, not sure if this is the right place to post but my LO has recently (last few weeks) started to poo 3-4 times a day - used to be just once. The poos are often a strain and sometimes her sleep is interrupted and she cries because she has to poo.

She is weaned and has cowsmilk. The poos range from 'pearls' to soft to normal.

Is this normal?

All helpful advice gratefully received!

My 15 month old also poos two or three times a day.

Also been weaned and off breast milk, though not on cows milk due to allergy.

Do you think it's something in her diet?

Did weaning cause this?

How long has she been on cowsmilk and how much? Enough fibre? High intakes of cow's milk often experience constipation. It's simply that the child fills up on milk which means he will have limited appetite for other foods that provide fiber.

What's in her diet? New foods can cause changes. Some foods like yogurt, bananas, white bread, cheese and some veg are harder to digest (but don't always cause poos like you describe).

Does she get enough fluids? Babies need extra fluid when weaned to compensate and "smooth" things.

I think the amount of times she poos is normal. Everyone has their own bowel routine, even babies.

Does it correlate to a change in diet?

Artandco · 06/09/2014 10:36

What's their typical diet?

I would recommend giving a high fibre breakfast with fruits to encourage poo before bedtime.

Also watch how much bread/ pasta especially as can lead to being bunged up. If you give bread for say lunch, try and give rice/ potato based dinner rather than pasta again. Too much Wheat can trigger constipation in many

Make sure eat meal has at least one fruit/ veg in

Also does she drink plenty of water as well as milk?
