Under 1yr old throws tantrum during nappy changes?

I wonder if anyone encountered a similar problem...ever since my daughter became more mobile, i.e. gained ability to roll over, sit, crawl etc it has become virtually impossible to change her nappy...or it takes triple the time...or it ends in tears, throwing her body backwards and just generally a stressful scenario for both of us. Is it a 'tantrum', or am I doing something wrong (as this has not been happening before...)?

Tantrum! My 9mth DS does it. Screams at the pure sight of the changing table .....

Phew...thought it was me. Have you discovered any ways to make it easier...?

Dd was like thisv- distraction helps, give her a toy to play with while you do it. We also started using pull ups so she didn't have to lie down if it was just wet

Weirdly, I've discovered that my dd will happily do anything if she's got a mini bread stick in her hand. I think it gives her a little sense of being in control of something, which can help mitigate the tantrum tendency. It makes nappy changes much easier. Might be worth trying something similar?

The most evilly genius idea I ever saw (on here) for this was the suggestion to give them one of those sticky lint rollers...

I would suggest a distraction. My bfs nephew is so wriggly but for some reason just giving him the pack of baby wipes to play with stops him from wriggling...we just have to be sure to change him quickly enough so he doesn't open the pack

I second the pack of baby wipes - it's the rustly sound I think. I also use a brightly coloured cloth, a squeaky bunny rattle and a tub of Sudocrem; sometimes all in the same nappy change . Oh and I make sure the pedal bin is out of his eye line!

Yep distraction! Toothbrush, baby wipes, rustle of a nappy sack.

It's pretty annoying and unfortunately my DD2 is still doing it at 17 months. The distraction sometimes does the trick for me but not always. Grrr.

We also used to change her under her old baby gym - this kind, which sometimes held her interest for long enough to change a nappy

As soon as my son could stand up I changed him standing up holding on to the sofa with a toy to distract him!

I tried to distract her with fresh nappy bags...nappies...mobiles...tried it all, she would just flip over onto her belly and any attempts to turn her back over felt like I was being violent! Not to mention the crying...Now I simply have to either change her whilst she is one all fours or like some of you, standing up..ah the joys
