Can baby become immune to Calpol?

My earlier post from a few days ago asked of alternative ways to administer Calpol (thanks to all who responded for your thoughts).

This post is asking your views on whether there is such a thing as too much Calpol in terms of the baby not responding to it because it's given too frequently?

Calpol is paracetamol - it should be used as little as possible and certainly not given routinely. The dose / frequency of dosage shouldn't be exceeded unless under direct medical advice. If a fever isn't reduced by paracetamol they they generally need looking at by a doctor smartish.

It's not possible to become immune to it but overdose is a risk.

Sorry, just to be clear I only give her Calpol when needed and follow the recommended dosage and frequency for her age.

What I was wondering was because she seems to have had rather a lot over the past few months (due to starting nursery and contracting cold after cold after cold and now an ear infection too!!) will it still have an effect or is she going to be immune to it if she continues to need it?

You can't really become immune to paracetamol.

What are you giving it for? Teething, fever, something else? If the problem you are trying to treat persists, perhaps you need something else?

It's mostly been to help with symptoms of cold (which is one of the things it says it's for) as really affects her sleeping and feeding at times. Also used when teething seems particularly bad.

My fil, a gp, told me not to worry about giving Calpol. He said to give it when I thought it was needed & always stay within the disease instructions.

I'm 35 & have been taking paracetamol since I was given it as a baby. It still works to get rid of headaches, so we certainly don't become immune.

I did feel like I was giving it too much at one point. Especially when ds got excited when he saw the bottle! I just think you get points where it's just one thing after another. It'll calm down soon I'm sure.
