Help! My 5 month old insists on being carried all day! He's a whinger!

I'm really upset and don't know what the right thing to do: my son is 5 months is a massive WHINGER! He turns it on whenever he's not in my arms. He won't lay down and enjoy his toys and play unless he's being held. He controlls me with his voice. Should I invest time to break this habit of wanting to be held to avoid him being an unhappy child (which will mean him SCREAMING) or shall I just do what he wants and hold him all day long???????

What do you think?

Apologies for repeating, have just skimmed through! Babybjorn slings aren't really designed for longer wearing, and I found it really pulled my back so I swapped it for an Ergo which is FAB. All the weight sits around your waist and your shoulder straps just provide security really. I carry ds for hours in it sometimes with no probs and I have a very dodgy back, and ds is 16 kilos!

misdee · 20/09/2006 21:09

yup, its about 5metres of cotton guaze. the ends are tapered, do you want me to measure the width for you?

Jimjams2 · 20/09/2006 21:10

£40? where are you? that sort of stuff is about £20 round here (just mention in case cost puts GP1 off).

aitch71 · 20/09/2006 21:12

sunny Glasgow, Jimjams. It's £40 for the first visit, and £35 if you need to go back. I went twice. Money VERY well spent i think. Where are you with your £20 chiropractic appointments? tell them to move here, will you?

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 20/09/2006 21:12

oooh, misdee, would you? That would be fabulous! Thanks!

hmmm,. aitch. Hmmm. Have been taking dd to see a c-s therapist. hmmm..

Not only is it making bugger all difference, not only does he hm whilst twiddling about in a slighly odd way, not only does every session he decide she needs a few more sessions but...

he seriously looks like he's about to sell me insurance. he has that look about him. pin stripes and a nice fleur de llys tie. its very disconcerting.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 20/09/2006 21:13

£40 here too, cardiff

you could pretty much buy cardiff for that, btw.

aitch71 · 20/09/2006 21:15

i liked dd's cos she specialises in children and is a chiropractor as well so not afraid to give a serious neck crack if she thinks it necessary. not a lot of twiddling from her, although she does use a crazy little hammer thing as well. (am i putting GPlus1 off now? sorry)

aitch71 · 20/09/2006 21:16

by the way fillyjonk, you missed a trick... haven't you noticed the new emoticon? "For a sceptical face, type ... "

misdee · 20/09/2006 21:18

approx 32inches width, which is 81.5cm.

HTH.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 20/09/2006 21:22

wow, when did [hmmm] happen?

ke-wel!

misdee, you are a star, thanks so much!

Now all I need is a baby to put it in....

(actually I'm going to use it as an emergency pocket sling for dd who insists on walking bloody everywhere)

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 20/09/2006 21:22

[hmmm]

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 20/09/2006 21:23

ah, thats better

weirdly, it's not on all the topics. i tried to be a smart-arse (what? me?) and start a topic on it in Chat or Site Stuff but it wasn't on the page so the didn't work. hmmmmm...

aitch71 · 20/09/2006 21:29

oh. it is now on the site stuff one, according to another thread. oh well, back to the slings and neck cracking.

Peridot30 · 20/09/2006 21:34

i wouldn't carry him all day! I must have been a crap mum as i had a whinger 2 but i let her cry for short periods of time.(also had a 22 month old at the time) Put her in a swing or babyseat. She could still see me and gradually whinging stopped. Sound really cruel compared to you all but it did stop.

WriggleJiggle · 20/09/2006 21:46

I read the first post and thought (in my baby befuddled brain state) that I'd somehow written it without realising! It sounds exactly like my little bundle.

I carry her constantly. She loves going out in the pram though. I swear the dogs legs are shorter now I've walked so many miles .

Toady · 20/09/2006 21:56

My nine month old is a "cling-on" too

I carry him most of the time, if I am in the kichen clearing up etc I put him in high chair, car seat initially, so he can watch what I am doing, give him stuff from kichen to play with too, ie saucepan lids, plastic containers etc.

Try and get everything done when he is asleep in the day for about 45 mins!!! so not much time.

If I put him down on the floor, he will crawl over and try to climb up my leg. I have given up and end up on sofa playing with from most of the day

Jimjams2 · 20/09/2006 22:26

aithch I'm in Devon; Took ds3 today, but today he was free (i pay for one appointment for about £11 iirc, then the nesxt is free but I go too). Have also done crainial but never paid more that 20 odd for a child (in London??? hmm can't remember was a few years ago - think was about £25) .

aitch71 · 20/09/2006 23:06

definitely tell them to come to glasgow on their holidays, jimjams, they could make a fortune. devon, huh? lucky you...

Jimjams2 · 20/09/2006 23:34

BUt it was way cheaper than 40 quid when I lived in London as well!

aitch71 · 21/09/2006 00:11

what can i say? that's what it costs up here...
by the way i've always wanted to ask - what did you do to jimjams1? did you bump her off? bury her under the patio? why the 2?

Jimjams2 · 21/09/2006 07:27

I always think of Glasgow as being cheaper that SE- must be a mecca for alternative practitioners

I deleted my membership a while ago so Jimjams/baka/alll the old names have gone forever.

sorrell · 21/09/2006 08:19

OOh yes, a swing might be a godsend. Have you tried one?
