nail picking - DS5 yo

is it a nervous tick ? he has started it recently. Do I need to see GP - referral to a therapist?

Why do you think a nervous tick? It could be boredom?

My DS does this with his nails and the skin around them. Sometimes it's when he's tired or stressed and other times when he is bored. I just keep an eye that he doesn't pick too much and make it sore, it's just a habit he's developed.
