Sensitive - what do you call your ds' girlie bits?

This is a tough one - I've a 3 yo ds and i've confidently called his private 'bits' his willie..he's happy with this and always uses the name when needed. No probs there. With girls its harder...i've got a 6 mo ds and, although it's early days, i feel i'm already searching for an equivalent for my daughters girlie 'bits' but struggling i'm afraid!

I'm not a prude. I don't find it difficult to talk about these issues. I just want to avoid the name my mum called mine - wee wee - eeeck! Now I call mine 'my vagina' but this doesn't seem right for a little girl and it always makes me feel a bit...errr...cringey IYKWIM.

When my ds and dd share a bath or when i'm changing my dss nappy, my ds is satisfied that she just 'hasn't got a willie'. But it's started to make me think - what does one name it?!!

I apologise if this offends anyone...not intended. I would love others opinions/experiences.

Sorry to hear that becky. Is sign language any use to you?

(FWIW ds thinks it is called a Valva my Essex accent strikes again)

beckybrastraps · 22/09/2006 19:28

OMG. What would sign language for vulva be?

beckybrastraps · 22/09/2006 19:29

I bet you know, don't you?

Mamamoor · 22/09/2006 19:50

Tricky one isn't it? DD1 is 4.5 and her bum is her bottom and the other bits are her 'girlie bits and her creases'. I have furry girly bits and dh has a wiggy (only cos she can't say her ls very well!)I know that this is probably very wimpy really but think it's sufficent for the moment.

Elibean · 22/09/2006 20:08

I used to know, Becky...(worked using BSL)...but pregnancy and motherhood seem to have wiped my brain clean of half of what I knew. I can find out if you like though

Elibean · 22/09/2006 20:09

Wonder what dd's generation will be posting on MN about what to call their genitals?

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 22/09/2006 20:27

I remember reading an article by a Mum in America who said all the Mums got angry, coz she did the star action in Twinkle Twinkle and that was the ASL sign for vagina

Mojomummy · 22/09/2006 20:28

Well we call it a pee pee or sometimes front bottom...actually we hardly use that one now.

My friend was over the other day & she insists peepee is wrong. I asked her what she called 'hers' when she was young & she replied a......wingley as in wing-ley. I asked how can peepee be wrong when hers is a made up word ?!

codwiggle · 22/09/2006 20:47

tghe problem wiht talking to a kid abotu a vagina
so that a few months later fran ny youll be in a crowded shoppign areaa nd she will scream

"mumy my vagina is itchy"

this will be embarasing
itneedent be but it will

beckybrastraps · 22/09/2006 20:55

I am now imagining my dd signing and people wondering what she is trying to say, and ds piping up in his lovely clear voice "she means her vulva". I'm already a bit of a pariah for getting ds to call his penis a penis.

codwiggle · 22/09/2006 20:56

yes
idt relaly ownt help
id clal it awilly and have done

eh will do the correst names in year 3

FrannyandZooey · 22/09/2006 20:58

LOL becky - I meant in general not just for talking about her vulva

Cod ds went through all that after I told him what it was called. He sat in the park once shouting "That woman has got a vulva - and that one - and that one" while I tried to pretend I was not with him

codwiggle · 22/09/2006 21:01

oh GOD vuvla far too graphic
what are oyu on

beckybrastraps · 22/09/2006 21:02

He calls it a penis. Loud and proud. Mind you, did regret it a bit when it needed some attention by the doctor, and every time we walked past the doctor's after that, ds piped up "That's the doctor's. I had a sore penis. The doctor touched my penis and now it's all better". Every day. For a LONG time. Poor doctor!

pipo · 22/09/2006 21:04

Embarrassing question here ( and off the point) but how do you pronounce penis? Is it pen-is or pea-nis?

codwiggle · 22/09/2006 21:05

pea niss

oh fgs
all of oyu

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 22/09/2006 21:06

cod, if your boys were girls what word would you be using?

expatinscotland · 22/09/2006 21:06

a lulu.

'nuff said.

codwiggle · 22/09/2006 21:06

bottom

lilymolly · 22/09/2006 21:07

PMSL!!! at pea ness!!

expatinscotland · 22/09/2006 21:07

'front bottom'.

WHERE the hell did that come from?

sorry to all who use that, but that's fucked up.

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 22/09/2006 21:13

No it isn't.

expatinscotland · 22/09/2006 21:14

Ursula
That is sooo confusing. It's NOT a bottom. It's in her middle. Her bottom is at her feet.

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 22/09/2006 21:19

Her bottom is at her feet??? No wonder you are confused, expat

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 22/09/2006 21:19

Of course you sit on your fanny, don't you?
