Dry at night - does it just 'happen'?

Ds is 3.9 and has been dry during the day now for maybe 10 months. His night nappies are always full and heavy in tje morning. I have absolutely no problem waiting for it to happen naturally and I don't really care how long that takes. But should I be doing anything to encourage it or will it just happen when he's ready?

yes, we talked about it and said they could have no nappies at night after 3 dry nights in a row (boys). Both happened around the age 4 mark with three accidents over a year between them - very little stress and we didn't do lifting at night.

ky daughter wet frequently until she was 5, then occasionally up to 10, it really does just stop.

I have a long running thread on here, ds age 7 is finally (hopefully ) dry.
We bought an alarm in the end.

When she was 4, I would take her to the toilet at my bedtime and gradually she started doing it herself. Didn't take long, no accidents now.

I waited for DD1, she was dry in the day at 2.8, but only dry at night at 5.8! Every 4-6 months we would do a trial of a week or so without nappies at night and see how she got on, only the last try at 5 years has worked, a few accidents here and there but mostly she takes herself to the loo once in the night and that seems to be working. Glad she has stopped needing night nappies as we are entering the age of sleepovers etc, also was sick of buying the things!

It's a hormone that kicks in. Not something you can 'train'. My DD is 5 in October and still not dry at night.

The only thing I would say is make him go to the toilet before bed.

Yes, it just happens. Suddenly you start getting some dry nappies in the morning. We do limit drinks in the hour before bed and remind ours to have a last wee. 6 year old still has occasional accidents when very tired or ill (and so sleeping more soundly).

dd1 was dry by day at 2.11

she didn't have one single dry night nappy until 4.11, when she was well into reception. She was consistently dry at night by 5, without any intervention or wet beds.

Yes, it does literally just happen.

Ds became dry at night at age 5 in the middle of an all inclusive holiday where he was helping himself to drinks and drinking half the swimming pool swimming all day. It was the last place I expected it to happen!

Dd just declared she would not wear nappies at night anymore at around 2.5 and after a week of accidents, was indeed dry every night. Didn't think that would happen either.

Though obviously if it goes on past 8 it's advisable to get advice/support.
