Why is my 8 month old sharing his food?

Is it not far to early for that? He just shared a bit of pasta with me. I was holding him in my arms and handed him a bit he'd left on his tray and he held it up to my mouth for me to take a bite, then he took a bite, then me again, then him, then me until he dropped the minuscule bit of pasta that was left in his hand. I thought this didn't come until much later?

DS (10 months) does this too - but he's fascinated both by food, and mouths (He'll then pry open my mouth to see what's going on in there and shove his hand in)

They're all interested in different things at different ages, and what they're interested in, they get good at.

Haha, my 9mo is always trying to stuff ricecakes into his friend's mouth and sometimes holds out gross bits of food for me from his high chair. I don't know when they are supposed to share food, but maybe you just have a generous baby. Mine's far more likely to rip food from my hand!

This is lovely normal development and spot on for his age.

I think it means he doesn't want it

My DS has done this since about then too. It's really sweet, and it clearly makes him happy. He tries to share everything by trying to jam it in your mouth, not just food - this is great at playgroup when he tries to shove toys in some other poor child's face. I know what his intention is, but I'm not sure other people quite believe me...

My son has done this since around that age, if you say 'mmm, yummy' he shoves it in your general direction. The problem is I'm veggie and don't want strips of steak or tuna covered pasta shoved towards my mouth!

DD has been trying to share her food with the dog ever since she started sitting in her high chair! It's fine if she drops the food but pretty disgusting when she holds out her food, the dog licks it (he won't take it out of her hand) and then she tries to eat it again!

My Ds went through a phase. I think some of it is genetic- a food poisoning reflex- if you eat it it's safe to eat, promotes new foods kinda thing. I guess if they see you eating it they are more likely to try it.

Mine has always done this too, I think because we weaned by offering off my plate so we have always given each other food. She has always been generous with her toys too, I assume once they figure out a skill they run with it.
