Is it true about testosterone surges on boys?

My 4 yr old son has recently become very aggressive. As well as hitting, biting etc his play is all about fighting, killing people and is generally very physical and aggressive.

He has always been quite physical and full of energy but this recent behaviour is a whole new ball game.

I know some say testosterone doubles at this age. Is this anyone else's experience? What did you do with the behaviour? I am struggling with timeouts as he just physically refuses to do it! Am open to any sensible ideas!

This article has quite a good investigation into the idea of a testosterone surge or not.

In terms of dealing with the behaviour, I would recommend a book called Toddler Calm for ideas on how to handle it. It takes a different approach from the timeout type of response, although it isn't necessarily everyone's cup of tea.

No, it's not true.

Thanks. Interesting that it has become an accepted truth though..
Will just have to continue to exercise him every day like a dog and continue with timeout!
