Dealing with a madly dribbly baby

My ds dribbles like mad. He gets through 6 changes of clothes a day, even with plastic-backed bibs on. There must be a more practical way of dealing with this?

a plastic backed bib with a very thick terry towelling bib over the top

Thanks, Colditz, will give it a go.

Hi nearlythree! I have same thing with my ds - 19 wks. HV said the drooling is a mechanism for getting rid of germs now that they are putting everything in their mouths. I think that is SO clever!!

I don't have an answer to make life easier though, just piles of small tops in the washing!

nearlythree · 18/09/2006 22:51

Hi, kamsmum! Yes, my hv said much the same thing - it's the salivary glands starting to work. My ds's are definitely going into overtime though - neither of my dds dribbled like this!

I worry a bit as ds is very mucusy (on his third cold already!) and I don't want him getting a chill on his chest.

it can go on for a while. ds was a phenomenal dribbler all throughout teething.

i got some funky cloth bibs, and tied them on like bandanas.

Hi

It is reassuring that other babies dribble for England (ha ha!) - my 10 week old DS is a nightmare with it and we are constantly wiping his face - just bathed him and put him in a babygro and within a minute it had about 3 long trails of drool down the front. Glad to know that it serves a purpose though.

My ds is still like this and he is 18 months old! I hate seeing him in bibs all the time but it seems to be the only solution.

Poor ds, it's worse today as he has a stinking cold so we have snot as well as drool! INteresting about the muscle weakness, our ds has a tongue tie so maybe that makes things worse.

DS is a major dribbler too - we smear vaseline over his chin/neck as well as using plastic backed & terry bibs. It seems to help with the soreness. HTH
