12 week old seems to prefer left side

My DD is 12 weeks old and I've noticed that she seems to favour her left arm. Her left hand is the one she seems to have 'found' and is putting in her mouth; she never does the same with her right. She does move both arms, but the left arm seems stronger. I try to move her right arm towards her mouth and sort of make a point of the fact that it exists too (god I must sound ridiculous) but she's just not really interested in it?

Normal or not or too early to tell?

I google it and CP comes up which is a little worrying. I have a paed appointment in a few weeks but just after some advice before then!

If your daughter can use both arms (but favours one) it sounds normal to me. She is young and could favour the other next week. Or she could stop grabbing so much for a while, while she focuses on learning another skill.

I hope you get a reassuring answer at your appointment.

Do you encourage her to grab with each hand, alternating which one during your baby games? Surgeons need good dexterity in both hands!

Thanks for the reply mipmop. I do alternate the hands when we play, she just seems much stronger in her left. I think you're probably right and I'm being a bit ridiculous! Something to keep an eye on but as you say, she is young.

Hiya. My daughter is left handed, she's now 8. When she started eating (was v young -3m8nths) I noticed she used her left hand. Stated putting food/spoon/whatever 7n the middle rather than to any particular side so as not to influence. When she stared nursery a 1yr I told them she's left handed, they said you can't tell at this age (everything was left handed about her though). Anyhow.....she's lefthanded! Im sure that's all it is. It's wierd tho when you're a right handed. So long as she can use her righthand, im sure she is just a developing leftie!

How interesting!! I'm a leftie so wondered if it was that. We shall see!
