sing and sign

Anyone been? my dh would like me to go and my sil raves about it,i have watched the video and it looks like fun (apart from the annoying lady on it) but worried it might delay ds speech, i know the leaflets say it doesn`t, so would appreciate any comments on it. thank you.

I have been going since DS was 8 months (he is now 13months) and I would def recomend it. He is saying lots of words or word like sounds and is able to tell me when he is hungry, thirsty, when he wants milk and loads more so he is less frustrated.

Besides all that he loves the classes, they are great fun and I have met lots of people too as everyone chats after with a cupa afterwards.

Didn't do sing and sign, but I did sign and whilst my DD wasn't perhaps as vocal in the early months, by 15 months her language was way ahead of her peers and at 34 months, it still is now..

"No mummy, its not my last go, its my penultimate go" Said my DD the other day!

We went from the age of 6mths, and dd picked up a few signs, although not as many as I'd hoped. She is 18 mths now and has over 150 words, which I think is above average (HV seemed to think so anyway!).

Apparently it actually encourages speech because when you sign , you also say the word and tend to say it more slowly and clearly than you might otherwise (also repeat it) which makes it easier for a little one to pick up.

Got the DVD when DS 4 months and took him to classes from 6 months. He is now just 12 months and does most of the signs and is also babbling two syllables more frequently now eg:tractor, teddy - not as brilliant as that but Deddi, Cha-ch (we get alot where we live, hence my name). But he is most importantly far less frustrated as he can tell me things by signing, so his screaming has stopped.
I think it's really good.

I thought it was brilliant and dd loved it. Once she had worked out how to sign she didn't stop and it really helped with her frustration. She started speaking at about 12 months and now at 22 months is speaking in 6 word sentences and is chatting all the time. I would say that it definately helped her speech not hindered it.

If nothing else the classes are fun and your dc will mix with others and so will you!

Thank you everyone for your positive replys plus found out today ther are spaces left for this term so looks like I`ll be singing and signing on friday quite looking forward to it now, at least ds should recognize the tunes have started watching the dvd everyday, also be good to get out and meet some more people.

Excellent news,when I was a childminder I took a child with delyayed speech to sing and sign and it did wonders so all this talk about it actualy delaying speech is nonsense.
Now I work in a primary school and I support children with speech and language difficulties.Some of the work I do uses Makaton and some of it uses the signs i learnt at sing and sign.Once children grasp the concept of it that is it no going back
It opened up a whole new world for me!

I only did the DVD?Video...and used it most with ms who is the best talker out of my 3 boys....if anyhting I owuld say it helps them make the connections of communicatiosn easier and it really does help to reduce tantrums
