yes I know its a phase
yes its probably a reaction to our new baby

but my gawd it drives me potty. I CANNOT ignore it and have now said that I shan't reply to her if she asks for anything in a baby voice.

There is a girl in her class who does it and dd1 has obviously picked it up off her.

Did I mention that it DRIVES ME DEMENTED

Yeah it's really annoying. I think you're taking the right approach, same with the whiney voice, and the angry voice etc etc. It's what they did at the nursery dd went to and in her reception class. I figured they knew what they were doing, did the same, it worked. Mind you, I don't think I was supposed to use an angry/frustrated voice myself quite as often as I did!

is it P.C to make an issue out of it?

TooTicky · 15/09/2006 20:26

Ds1's entire class did it for a while, aged 5/6/7. It was just a phase.

NotAnOtter · 15/09/2006 20:27

its even more offensive in boys i think....yeuch ...one of the less endearing childhood traits but they all do it..

tamum · 15/09/2006 20:29

One of dd's friends still does it, age 8, to any adult. She talks normally to her friends apparently. It drives me mad too.

You have to get very good at pretending you haven't noticed that she even spoke unless she used her normal voice. Any sign of irritation from you - will be fuel for her to continue.

LizP · 17/09/2006 14:52

ds1 does this all the time and now ds2 is picking it up too - can't think why since he knows it gets his brother no where and just makes me cross.
Any request made in the baby voice is always answered 'no' but I'm not convinced we are really seeing any less of it.

my eight yr old boy goes into a squecky high pitched voice from time to time - no helpful advice but it DRIVES ME NUTS too!
