How do you help a child who just takes everything to heart?

DD is bright and popular but is very, very emotional and things that seem minor leave her distraught. I am not sure how best to help her. We talk about feelings a lot and how it is ok to feel sad/angry/whatever but I worry about how she is going to cope in life! Is anybody in a similar situation?

Does she have a teddy? Could you have a dog? Confiding in both helps s lot.

The other thing is to teach her to count her blessings/ look for the good things.

But don't worry too much, most children learn to cope, eventually.

My 4.6 yr old DS is similar. He is very emotional and reads a lot into everything! Following with interest.
