Just a little follow on post really from another.
We have some concerns about ds but haven't any help yet.

Ds will not sit upright. He seems very uncomfortable and just throws back all the time when I try to sit him. He is the same in a highchair/seat. He must can't seem to tolerate it.
So my question is, do I keep persevering, trying with I'm, or do I leave it for now if he clearly doesn't want to?
The only position he seems comfortable in arm is on his back or side.
When in any sitting support he just slumps forward.
He will stand in his walker though with a straight back.

Also is there any kind of sitting support chair I could try?
I've tried baby nests, bumbos (too big for it now anyway) highchairs etc

Have you discussed this with any health professional?

I think if he's not sitting at 9 months you should discuss it with your GP.

He's almost certainly fine, just a bit late. But it won't hurt to get him properly checked out.

He has bee seen end of for other issues but they just say they will review him in 4 months. When seen they wrote that he didn't have any 'righting reflexes' and his tone was 'variable' but ok when distracted.
I just don't really know what to do in the meantime.

If he's been seen for other issues than that doesn't count.

He needs to be seen for this issue.

9 months is very late and you'd be doing the sensible thing by making an appointment about it.

You certainly shouldn't leave it another 4 months before getting him seen.

Does he have any digestive issues? Wondering if he is uncomfortable.
Any crawling? Some move back from crawling to sitting position

Ty endof. I'll keep trying to push for one. Hopefully it will all be fine but stop me wondering.
Naty. I don't think so. My dd1 had and still has lots of allergies and reflux etc and though she was ill with it, It doesn't seem to be the same issues. He is not a sick baby. In fact he s very rarely sick nd eats very well. When he was younger burped very easily etc.
He doesn't really like being on his tummy. He just rolls back over to hs back. Being on his back or side are his preferable positions. Ne, he always sleeps on his side with one leg over the other,even though I've always put him down on his back to sleep.

My DD didn't really sit well at 9 months. We had some kind of teddy bear soft sitting thingy (sorry not well described) from ELC. I'd given the bimbo way after ds2 as neither ds liked it either.

However, she couldn't roll either so we propped her up so she could play with things.

I think if your DS is happier rolling on his side I'd just let him do that.

Incidentally, DD is now 3 and is completely normal (well, actually she's quite clever!) . She didn't walk til 18 months though and I don't think she rolled until after she was 1.

Is he crawling or attempting to pull himself up? I would be quite concerned and would be seeking medical advice if not.

Thank you karole. He can roll but he is not crawling or pulling himself up at all.
My dd1 never really crawled but she was walking by 10 months and definitely cruising at this age.
Dd2 didn't walk until 14 months but was a good crawler. I can't quite remember what age she started crawling though.

My dd didn't sit until 9 months, 8 months is average so not miles behind. She was walking by 13 months so did everything in a rush once she got the hang of it.

I would leave him if he seems uncomfortable. In some countries parents are advised not to put babies in a seated position until they can do it themselves anyway.

Sounds just like my 10 month old! She sleeps on her side, only tolerates tummy time for a short while, still has reflux issues, slumps to her left when sitting in a highchair, rolls but doesn't crawl yet.

I recently saw a physiotherapist who was very helpful, encouraging, and gave me lots of little exercises to do with DD. Some of them are very simple, e.g. Just the way I pick her up out of her cot, or different ideas for tummy time. Would your GP be able to refer you to physio?

Jilted, we are still waiting for an NHS referral - the paediatrician agreed to refer 3 weeks ago, but I rang the physio dept today and surprise surprise they haven't had any info. However we're very fortunate to have a friend whose girlfriend is a physio, and she's seeing us monthly as a favour. I can already see the difference in DD from doing the exercises - she seems to have steadier posture and lifts her head for longer. She's happier to do tummy time and is just starting to pull her knees up as if she wants to crawl.

Amy, sorry to ask, do they just think she is developing a bit late or does she have any muscular problems they have pointed out? Glad she is doing weld with the physio. Does she enjoy it?
