DS age 7's Whinging......what's happened to our Lovely Little Lad?

DS is seemingly in a constantly shite mood! Whinge, whinge, whinge.

Obviously, he whinges when he doesn't get his own way but it's more than that. It's almost become his default setting and we don't know why.

The only times when he is whinge-free are when he is:
Playing football with DH
At school
On xbox
Making loom bands
Asleep

Please help before I go nuts. It makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong, which I probably am.

At times he's seems almost disillusioned with being a child!

When he's rude we pull him up on it.

DH is much less worried and thinks it happens more when he's tired.

He maybe frustrated wanting to be able to do more than he is developmentally able.
He may have discovered that moaning gets what he wants. Or it's become habit.
Try to do positive reinforcement. Lots of attention for normal and happy behaviour. Ignore or walk away from the grumping. When he whinges say you won't get X till you have a happy voice. Tell him what you want not what you don't want him to do.

Plus end of term tiredness, hot weather inhibiting sleep, and 7yo hormone surge?

Blimey is there such a thing as 7 yo hormone surge?!

Today seemed better. I was less stressed and tried to ignore some of the behaviour and then focus on the positive.

In fact at the end of the day DS said, "I've been a good boy today haven't i?"

And he had.

Apparently - just Google it! Glad you've had a good day; nice to know they can still happen. We're all better when we're less stressed.

We had a "lazy" day today, staying in apart from a quick trip,to the supermarket.

DS was whining that it was "the worst day of my life" but I stayed very calm all day and, on balance, it was pretty okay!

He's 7, it's difficult! My DS got cocky and moaned a lot but we got through it; lots of time outside running around/other excercise, keep a check on refined sugars, have a couple of really good consequences in place for when the whinging gets too bad and remind him that you only respond to a normal tone of voice. Deep breath, this too shall pass...and return with a vengeance at ~10 (DS has just got through the 10yo bout of grumpy, stroppiness)

Thanks andro I know it will pass but it's good to know others have been thought the same stuff!

If it makes you feel any better, my 8 year old dd is going through something similar... Constant whinging, lots of "this is the worst day ever"....

those exact words were uttered by DS yesterday!

He's just gone off camping with DH and a big group,of Dads and kids so I guess there'll be very little,whinging for a few days!

No advice to share I'm afraid but wanted you to know you are not alone, my 7 year old seems to whinge just for the sake of whinging these days!
