to cry in the night, see you coming in and go into a complete wall-slamming screamer, shouting 'GO AWAY I DON'T WANT YOU GO AWAY' ad infinitum

sorry to ask but i feel like such a rubbish mother, while he was doing this i kept going over his boring afternoon with me which involved me doing a lot of housework. really hated myself last night.

Could be night terrors you know, where they aren't fully awake, but it's not a dream either. And certainly not your fault. Does this happen often?

My 2.9yo doesn't need any kind of a reason to throw a wall-slamming screamer, if it's any consolation. She does a princessy thing that involves screeching, "Go away, leave me alone!!" I tend to flounce out at that point, saying, 'Fine, I don't want to talk to you either', which usually provokes more screeching.

Don't take it personally. Does sound as though it might be night terrors, though -- dd2 is always a bit disorientated and weird on the (admittedly rare) occasions when she does wake up in the dead of night.

Yes my DD does the same (2.8) but usually because she wants DH to come in, or if DH goes in first then she wants me.....

Don't take it personally... I assume that she doesn't know what she does want, so the night terror theory sounds about right really..

We just get the other parent to go in and sit with her a little while and she goes back to sleep...

The when she wakes up in the morning, she doesn't rememeber at all, as she thinks she slept through the night and asks for a sticker, saying, I slept all night didn't I... um no actually you woke the whole street up....
