How do I get him to stop SCREAMING?

He screams all day - not in pain / not upset / not angry - like excited or just enjoying making the highest squeak/ scream he can.

It's SO loud it hurts my ears, i imagine my neighbours ears - and a few streets away ears. And it's all.... day.... long unless he's eating / sleeping.

I have tried the sitting at eye level, explaining calmly indoor voice etc. I have tried saying calmly No no... no... shhhhh... quiet now. Mummy can hear you.

He doesn't give a rats. nearly 18 months.

Any ideas what else I can do? Just to put this into perspective - I am not a killjoy who doesn't want him to be happy - the screaming is un-bel-iev-ab-ly loud. My mum rang earlier and heard him and said "GOOD GOD! Is he like that all the time?!" and it wouldn't be so bad if it was a stage of the day - but it's ALL day.

I feel your pain trust me.. I wish I knew the answer to it but mine didn't stop doing it till nursery. How I didn't crack up I don't know.

Ice pops and corn on the cob keep mine remarkably quiet for decent stretches....no other advice I'm afraid other than ear plugs (which honestly is quite a good idea as it will bring the screaming down to an acceptable pitch)

My DD (2) likes yelling loudly and my DS(1) has just discovered the high pitched whine / squeal, so I do feel your pain.

Agree, Ice pops, brilliant idea, the only thing that would sooth DS when he was tiny!! x

He doesn't like anything cold in his mouth. Hates ice cream ... Or anything wet/ sticky!
He's a complete weirdo. At least other people have experienced this.

Only words of empathy I'm afraid. DD is also a 'screamer' and has been for some time. Weirdly she seems to go for days, sometimes weeks with no screams at all, then all of a sudden it's back louder than ever! She teases you! Saying "this is what you could have" ;)

I have given up trying to figure out why she does it! It can't b her 'finding her voice' as she wouldn't stop for days on end.

Any way, all we can do is hope they grow out of it before sending us round the bend and/or deafening us!!!
