My dd not walking yet...

Hi everyone, just wondered if any of you had a late walker? my dd is 13 months, I have seen a lot of babies at playgroups about 10/11/12 months old toddling about.

my other 2 kids were walking by their first birthday. dd is cruising around the house, and although I'm not too worried just yet, I culd do with some reassurance!! thanks x

The average age for walking is about 14 mo so I don't think you need to worry about having a late walker just yet. Anything up to 18mo is well within the normal range.

My dcs walked at 18, 19 and 21 mo. that's late walking
Ironically they are all good runners now and the latest walker's school report described him as excelling at sport. So no long term effects as far as I can see.

Cruising sounds good too

DD did not walk until she was 20 months old, and didn't even stand until she was 18 months. She was an extremely able bum shuffler and, like Relocator's DC, quite good at running now that she's 5.

So your DD is not late at all, especially if she is cruising already!

My DS didn't attempt to walk until he was 15 months (he didn't crawl either). It was almost as though he couldn't be bothered because he knew Wwe'd fetch things for him, and then he thought sod it I might as well give it a go!

He's 8 now and won't sit still

I understand you asking for reassurance though, I think I asked on here too when lots of similar aged children seemed to be walking much earlier than DS. Your DD will do it in her own time.

I think non-walking at 18m to 2yrs is investigated and even then it's just to ensure no physiological cause. DS walked 16m; up to 18m is 'normal' I believe as pp said.

Don't think a 'FGS' is called for - I was reassured lots by others with my first as it's all new, isn't it?

Mine was 15.5 months. She was a sturdy, confident walker straight away when it finally happened. Try not to worry (hard, I know).

My DD1 was 17 months when she started walking. She's 3 on Sunday and won her first race at sports day last week try not to stress!

Dd was 14 months which I thought was about average?

Normal development for walking is up to 18 months. So she is doing just fine.

Don't worry as others have said, its early days yet, my DS is 14.5 months and is only just starting to take some wobbly steps, yet when my DD was his age she could walk quite confidently as she walked at 11 months. My point is all children are different. Your DD will get there, you'll soon be chasing her :)

Thanks for all your replies, I know she's only 13 months, so that's not technically classed as being a late walker, but I think I just feel a bit anxious that's all

I'm happy to carry her for now :)
