18 month old headbutting when frustrated...

And she seems to be frustrated a fair amount so she's headbutting stuff (floor, table, bed, me whatevers closest really) a few times a day! Is this normal? She also seems to be behind in her speaking (she only really says 'out' and its not obvious. And her sisters name and 'dada' for her dad).
She dropped a lot of weight as a baby, going from 75th to inbetween 2nd and 9th percentile. She's stabilized her weight now and in that respect seems fine.
But I am perplexed by the headbutting!

DD is 20 months and has done this off and on since about 14/15 months. Mainly when teething and cross. I also have a friend whose DD did this. I think it's fairly common (as in, most children don't do it, but there's quite a few who do).

Can't really comment on her speech as I'm not sure what's normal. Maybe check with HV? Guess that would be adding to her frustration though.

Frustration pure and simple at a guess! Can you imagine wanting something and no one understanding you?! It would be hellish. Ds1 was terrible with hitting although he has hearing loss to be fair so he was doubly frustrated. Ds2 hits out occasionally all when he you can't do what he wants. As speech improves the hitting / head butting should improve. Despite ds2 being 20 months when he lashes out i do say "no" firmly.

My son dis this when he was clearly frustrated, he was a very late talker and I think he was just furious he couldn't communicate when he had something to say.

His talking has now flourish and the headbanging has stopped. It is truly upsetting when they do it, tiles, concrete .... Which makes them cry more. Poor lambs.

Don't worry too much, keep and eye and maybe see a gp/hv if you really aren't comfortable,

DS did it, particularly when teething. I put him in a pile of cushions and retreated. He outgrew it as his speech improved.
