Hiya all,

My son is 2.5 and has without fail for the last year had TWO bottles before bed every night. One used to be enough but we tried to cut them down and then he started asking for 2. I don't really know how it got like this-taking the easy road i guess.

He's now in a bed but still has his boccy. I don,t have a problem with him having it, he settles really quickly and sleep through now (he only started a few months ago)

The trouble is he wakes up wet, every single day, the washing is doing my head in. I have mattress protectors but they are the flocked sort so they still need a wash and it's everyday. More often than not he also gets the duvet wet too. It's quite clear we need to stop the bottles.

We tried going cold turkey the other week but it was hellish, he was so unutterably distressed and really clingy for 2 days we decided it just wasn't worth it.

We give him 50/50 water and milk he tends to only have one for nap time because he's shattered. He eats incredibly well, indeed, there's part of me worrying about the amount of food he'll consume if he's not having his 3 pints a day! His teeth are great and he's really healthy and active.

I don't know what to do. I am loathe to start changing his bum in the night again, when he was still waking we used to do it routinely, but now he's going through the problem has started.

I'd wait until another 6 months & try again. Try offering a couple of baby yogurts with a sippy cup of water, during story time. Lots of hugs & attention too, to try replace the comfort of the boccy.x
