DD climbing up things...

so how do I teach her how to get down safely??? She is nearly 9mths and her brother just seemed to have a lot more sense so could move easily up and down things like stairs etc. Its not just stairs she is learning to climb onto couch and chairs but has no idea how to get down so goes to throw herself head first.

hi, my dd is just over 8 months and is pulling herself on everything. we have hard floors- wood and tiles and so is not good for falling on! I take her to soft play where she can learn to get up and down and fall in the process and not hurt herself. Because dd is very petite, she can not reach down to with her hand for balance, and because she is an early crawler she does not go onto her bum, cos she has never been a one to sit on bum and play, cos she wants to crawl iyswim, so she gets to a point where she is stuck and cries till I help her down!
I would keep her away from stairs personally, but I think we have to resign ourselves to the thought that they are going to get bruises, and that it is all part of their development. Good luck

Hi have 2.9 DD and 11mth DS. DD crawled at 6mth and walked at 8mth. DS crawled at 7mth and walked at 10mth both really into climbing everything tables to couch, move toy boxes and into window sills etc. Taught then to swivel bum around and get off things backwards. Also allowed them to crawl off something to get that scared sensation. Sounds alarming but obviously I did catch hold of their clothing. They would constantly climb onto couch/bed etc and then just try to crawl off it but once they experienced the little over the edge moment and then combined that with going backwards they learnt quickly to get down safely.

Always better to move them away from stairs etc if possible but teaching them a safe method is a good back up plan.

bouncyball ds was easy to teach to turn around and safely get down..dd on the other hand is kamakaze...lol Ds was walking by 8.5mths etc so maybe that helped make him more aware. DD is crusing etc but has a devil may care attitude.
