What do you do when your child screams this at you?

I don't ever remember saying it to my parents, ds is in is room screaming it at me as I have told him off for something.

I simply say.... and I love you. Then I ignore them!

Strange as it seems they've all (well not yet with the DTs) said that or words to that affect to me. And there was I thinking that I was the perfect mother..........sigh.... If only my children would work that out!

sanchpanch · 10/09/2006 11:22

if i tell my dd age 3 not to do something she says ' well i dont love you then' and i just ignore to the best i can, i would try not to make a big deal out of it as i am sure children play up to things they know upset and hurt

gigwig · 10/09/2006 11:24

DS sometimes shouts this when told off. I just ignore it and say ' well I love you'.

alexsmum · 10/09/2006 11:24

yeah i've only had it once or twice and i just " that's sad because i love you" and then walked away and ignored.

Pinotmum · 10/09/2006 11:25

I normally say "well I don't care if you hate me but I still love you and you still have to tidy your room"

Pinotmum · 10/09/2006 11:26

Dd now says "this is the most awful day" Too many drama classes perhaps?

Dottydot · 10/09/2006 11:26

It's definitely a phase (I hope!). ds1 used to say this regularly about 6 months ago, but has stopped now. I'd try not to get upset - think I did the first time - and just say "well I love you" and leave it at that. Hopefully it's a short-lived thing.
