Does my 9 month old sound ok to you or is there a problem?

My ds 9 months can't roll over or crawl and hates being on his tummy. He has apparently no interest in getting mobile- doesn't bottom shuffle/ cruise/ commando crawl etc.

He can stand holding onto something and 'walk' if we hold onto both his hands. He has been sitting since around 6 months.

He is reasonably interactive- smiles and laughs especially at his brother. He claps hands and plays with toys- eg trying to fit balls in the holes of his sorter toy but sometimes seems tuned out especially when tired.

His brother was so much further on when he was this age- not sure whether he is delayed or his brother was ahead or whether there is just a wide range of normal. Any thoughts/ comparisons?

This sounds normal to me. There was a baby in our nct class like this. Didn't start trying align till about 13 months. Only tried pulling to stand at 14 months. Babies just do things at different rates. Some kids don't walk till two years.

There is a very wide range of normal in everything, getting mobile, talking, moving to solids.

I would say he sounds well within the range of normal. My DS hated tummy time too and never crawled, although he was a fantastic bum-shuffler from about 9 months old. He didn't clap hands till he was about 12 months! And aren't we all a bit tuned out when tired? Grin

Sounds well within normal range to me too. He may not be so bothered about moving because he has his big brother as entertainment Smile

thanks very much for these responses. I thought I'd be more relaxed second time around, but there just seems to be so much worry involved in parenthood.

This sounds exactly like my ds! Couldn't do anything until 9.5 months....then managed to sit up followed by bum shuffling between 10-11.5 months and then walking by 12 months. They are amazing creatures! Grin

My DD is 11 months and sounds similar to your DS, except she rolls over.

Tummy time just results in her rolling over and she doesn't bum shuffle and has shown no inclination to crawl at all.

But other than that she is happy and smiley and likes to babble a lot Smile I used to worry about the non-crawling but now I've learnt that babies develop at their own rate and that's ok!

Exactly like both of mine.

Sounds fairly like my DD was at that age! She's a bit of a lazy one, even now, but I don't think it's anything wrong developmentally, at that age Smile

Sounds perfect! Just enjoy him being at that totally gorgeous stage of sitting and smiling at everything but not moving., I love that stage! He'll move when he's ready. Please try not to worry.. He sounds delightful!
