Is this normal or should I be worried? 6 year old wetting himself.

DS is 6 and potty trained easily when he was 2.5. He has never had a lot of accidents. In the last few months he has been wetting himself once a month or so. It's always when he is outside, and playing. I have not made a big deal of it, and just helped him change his clothes. Today he was on a school trip, and wet himself just before he came home. Would you be worried about this or is it just one of those things that happens occasionally?

I don't mean to sound horrible so bear with me while I try to explain. Do you think it's just laziness? By that I mean is he having too much fun playing outside and can't be bothered to come in? If it's only happening once a month I wouldn't be too concerned however maybe worth asking a doctor.

That doesn't sound horrible at all, and yes it could well be that he just doesn't want to stop what he's doing. It just seems odd that it's happening now, rather than when he was 2 or 3 when I would have expected it.

Oh so it's not on-going? Sorry I misunderstood, yes that does seem peculiar. I maybe would take him for a check-up just to be on safe side. I've heard of kids having bladder problems and needing help to strengthen it x

I would take him for a checkup, to be sure, but DD did used to wet herself occasionally at that age. Normally in school, just at the end of a lesson/just before break or lunch, it seemed. She's nearly 8 now and fine, after a lot of encouragement, but we took her to the GP as it's better safe than sorry, I suppose.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will get him checked, just to rule out any issues.
