My 10 month old ds loves nothing more than shoving his fingers down his throat and making himself sick. We give him lots of attention, as he is an only, and other than this he is really easy and content. Should I be worried, or is this just a normal part of childhood? I have no worries other than this, he is a really content baby. He just seems to think it is funny to make himself puke!!! Maybe I am more sensitive to this coz I was bulimic, who knows? Just know that it irritates the shit out of dh, too, so would really like some advice.

What do you do when he does it?
What makes him do it ie what happens just before he does it?

Maybe try to keep him distracted/ occupoed with his hands when you think he might be about to do it

DD used to do this and it drove me bonkers! The only thing that worked for me was to clear it up without a fuss (certainly without getting cross, however mad you feel - this gives them the attention they are seeking. easier said than done though!!) and not make eye contact when doing so. She only did it for about 3 weeks or so, then got bored. It is very upsetting though, isn't it, plus pretty annoying for the person clearing up. And sprinkling bicarb of soda on the puke stops the smell and you just hoover it up.

good luck - it will pass, honestly .

Ds did this when he started really investigating his hands. As DollyP said it passed after a while. I don't think its a serious behavioural problem but more like wondering what will happen if they do it (and then do it again and again to see if it will still happen) - though I do appreciate why you'd be worried.

Soon he will have thought of something else to worry you silly
