Can your 7 yr olds tie shoelaces?

My ds usually has Velcro shoes but we recently got him a pair of trainers with laces. I've tried to teach him but he just isn't getting the hang of it. Anyone else find this difficult?

I couldn't learn as a child... Until a friend taught me. Nothing my parents said made sense to me.

DS1 can (nearly 7) but he's had one pair of (non-school) lace ups for quite a while. He learned to tie a bow with his dressing gown cord first. It has only recently not taken forever to get those shoes on!

DD(6) can - they were encouraged to tie their own tap shoes at dance class so she learnt pretty quickly as she wanted to impress the teacher Grin

I have 2 six year olds, 1 can tie their shoe laces and one can't be bothered to learn

The incentive for the one who can was some very cool lacing shoes.

Mine can, but she's not very good at staying them so they stay tied.

He can but he's not great at it.

Thanks. Think we'll need to get practicing!

I had tried and failed to get my DD aged 9 to tie them. Then DH pointed out that he had no idea how to tie a bow properly and had always just tied the two loops into a knot instead. So still need to be able to do a knot but they may find it easier!
