Jess (2.1) seems to have decided sleep in the day isnt for her - and although I am most upset about it, im intrigued as to when others LO's dropped their nap.

My dd is nearly 4 and would still nap in the day now if I'd let her, in fact the other week she begged me for a nap and I gave in. I've been quitting the nap over the summer holidays because she's due to start full-time school in January and isn't going to cope if she still needs to sleep at 2pm!

Having said that I think it's unusual for children to sleep in the day at dd's age. Most of my friend's kids seemed to drop naps between 2 and 3.

ds was nearly 3 when he stopped having a nap every day, but now at 3.5 he still has an occassional nap if tired or emotional, or if in the car after a day out.

expatinscotland · 06/09/2006 12:35

About 2.8

ds1 - same age as yours (otherwise couldn't get him to sleep at night).

dd1 - about 3.

ds2 - about 2 and a half.

To this day, my dd1 is the best sleeper of the lot, bless her (bar the baby of course who I am hoping will be like big sis!).

izzybiz · 06/09/2006 13:39

Dd is 2.4 and only naps in the car now at weekends.
At home during the week she wont have one anymore.

DD will be 3 at the end of the month and stopped napping about 4 weeks ago - our choice not hers as getting her to sleep at night took till about 10pm! Her naps did suit us as DH works 4am - 11.30am, and looks after her in the afternoon - so it gave him time to catch up on sleep, but because nice quiet evenings as a couple were also important to us she now has quiet time with a portable DVD player in her room and her fav film, like Lilo and Stitch or Mary Poppins while he dozes for 1-2 hours, and she goes to bed nice and early - at a more reasonable time of 7.30. Baby no.2 is due in December so lets see what happens to the routine then !!!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 06/09/2006 14:14

Ds is 20m and he can sometimes go without a nap, but he struggles at the end of the day. He is sleeping now and has been since 1.30.
Yesterday he had no nap as we were out and he just kept fighting it! He was in bed asleep by 6pm and was up at 7 this morning full of beans!

gigwig · 06/09/2006 14:20

DS is nearly 4 and still needs a 45 mins nap, he goes to sleep ok at night when he has one.

Clary · 06/09/2006 17:20

Mine were all just 2. Would still have slept in the day but wouldn't go down at ight as they had, and my evening is very important to me so we dropped the nap. Worked every time.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 06/09/2006 17:22

DS1 - 18 months - on his own (and it was a battle getting him to even before then)

DS2 - will be 3 in November and still going strong with them

hulababy · 06/09/2006 17:24

DD was under 2 when she stopped taking regular daily naps I think. She would have the odd one int he week - to catch up probably. And she continued to have naps at nursery (2 days a week) until she was about 2.5yo
