5 1/2 month old not reaching for toys! Worried sick!

I have a 5 1/2 month old who is a bit behind in her milestones, mainly fine and gross motor. She can sit supported but with still a little wobble, needs to be supported rib level and prefers to be on her back, rolls tummy to back but not back to tummy. Brings hands to midline and sucks on her fingers and fists. She will grab her blanket that's on her lap and try to mouth it or her clothes. But she does not have a lot if interest in her toys or her little gym, will not reach up to try to grab toys. Loves to just lie there and look around and watch people. Hasn't belly laughed but more of a haaaahaaa but smiles a lot. She has a profound hearing loss so not sure if this would delay her milestones or not. Besides the hearing loss she appears to be happy and healthy except for my concerns! But it's hard not to worry there us underlying issue. Thoughts or experiences please!

Sorry you are worried. I would say her gross motor skills sound fine, both my girls were at the same stage at that age. Hard to say on fine motor, she's still very young. Have her eyes been checked?

I don't think they really get "into" toys until around 1yr onwards, at least that has been my experience and a few other friends have said the same that their kids were interested in everything 'BUT' toys until into the 2nd year. My DS found wires fascinating, anything similar like a cord on someones jumper and he wanted it but I have a heap of toys which are now too young for him really that he's only just showing any interest in at 20 months.

About the rolling - is she a big baby? I think it can be a lot harder to roll back to tummy if they are (think tortoise). Maybe her tummy muscles just need to strengthen a little more.

All sounds normal. I have 2 normals under 3 so memory for these things is still good. Relax!

Sorry should that I don't think the hearing loss will be having an impact right now but maybe you should seek advice from a specialist just in case.

Child care practitioner and nanny of over 20 years - sounds normal to me .

She sounds exactly the same as my 5.5mo :) mine will roll from back to front and then cry because he doesn't like it. Today he sat for ten seconds unsupported and then flopped over. Don't worry too much, the milestone ages are an average.

You'll be her favourite thing for now, she probably just likes looking at your lips moving and facial expressions. We always get big smiles when we do signed nursery rhymes with lots of expression with ours.

I would try and get reassurance from a professional to put your mind at rest but I wouldn't worry about the toys- could be a chilled out baby

Prob no need to worry . I know lots of children who were called "slow " developmentally . One of these kids didn't sit unaided until 18 months or walk til 2. He's now 30 and a total genius ! Made his first million pounds by 20 designing gadgets . Totally nothing wrong with him at all. Another girl I know who's 5 didn't reach for things until8 months. She's totally fine and not behind developmentally at all now. Sometimes it such a dace for children to do everything by a certain date. I would say it's just a guild and nothing to worry about just keep an eye on.

Sounds normal. DS did everything very early, DD did everything late prob because of older brother pushing her down, talking over her. Both perfectly happy healthy individuals . Give it time.

I'm not sure why you're worrying - my baby is 8 months old and can't sit in the slightest, she didn't learn to reach for anything toys or other things til she was 7 months old she could roll one way at 5 and a half months but not the other and she hasn't rolled regularly til now. I know my baby's healthy just taking longer to develop with things than others. Just relax and enjoy her.
