baby who hates toys

Just want to be reassured that this is normal! My nearly 5 month old DD gets upset after a few seconds of playing with any toy- previously she liked them. I think it's because she wants everything in her mouth and when they don't completely fit she's frustrated but it's getting much harder to keep her entertained in the house. She's also started complaining about being the buggy unless she's sleepy. Am running outs of songs.....(and energy)

I look after a 6 month old baby, she likes
playing with her treasure basket - things from around the house; wooden spoon, keys, toilet roll tube, ribbon, loofah, pumice stone, toothbrush
playing with a tray of; water, shaving foam, icecubes, rice, sand
sharing stories
painting

does she not try to eat the rice, shaving foam, sand etc?

No not really, I sit with her and she touches it, sits in it etc and if she does try I distract her and stop her :D

Maybe she's tired and grumpy when you give her the toys?

bit young for toys IMO. just any old stuff from around the house should interest her. can't imagine painting with a 6mo! I can't be bothered younger than about 18mo. they aren't going to actually transfer any paint to paper.

also some babies are more into putting things in their mouths. dd2 (9mo) is a horror for it, dd1 now 2 never did or does.

DS is 9 months. His favourite toy is a plastic drinks carton that DS1 finished the other day. He also enjoys the riveting game of knock down the bin and find more cartons and lets yank mums hair.

He owns toys but he is not remotely interested in them.

Poocatcherchampion - baby has "painted" several pictures - and paint definitely got onto the page we also do body painting

I can't quite remember, so she might be a bit young, but have you tried leaving her to play alone? I spent what felt like forever (in a lovely way) trying to entertain ds, only to turn around one day and find him happily doing it himself.

To this day, at 8mo, he'll play happily alone only when I'm not right there & part of it.

My 9 month old seems happiest alone and with no or only 1 or 2 little toys, odds and ends form the kitchen, empty bottles etc.
He just sits watching animals and birds outside, or throwing himself around on a mattress, when we are inside.

With buggy I put him in setup when we are going ro the park, MIL etc and only laid down when I intend for him to have a nap. I did this once he was able to sit so around 5 months.

Setup should be sat up

OP I wonder if it's because they go through perceptual leaps, and so are seeing their toys differently it swim? So familiar objects are now scary/frustrating/mind bending...mine (6m) has suddenly taken a dislike to a previously favourite toy - she plays with it for a minute or two then bursts into tears. Very odd.
