DD's behaviour at the park. Quite frustrating!

Hi everyone, I was just wandering if anyone came across this with their child.
When I take dd to the park she seems keen to play and everything, but if there's another child behind her for instance at the slide, she instantly asks me to get her down. She is 2 and I understand that it is a bit intimidating if someone is behind you waiting, but it results in her not playing at all and me having to help her get down everytime.
Quite annoying and embarassing, especially when I see other kids enjoying themselves normally.
Can anyone give me some advice on this please? Am I doing something wrong?

Not quite the same but if we are out for a walk and DS (2.9) sees someone behind us, even if it is quite a way, we have to wait until they have gone. I assume he will grow out of it, quite maddening though.

maybe you could just encourage her to carry on. if you see a child approaching then just get her to quickly go down the slide etc

Thanks for your advice and replies. I've actually tried to encourage her to carry on but she just ignores me and demands to get down.

in that case i'd just get her down. she'll eventually figure out that it's no fun!

No actual advice - but DS used to turn around and scream "NO" at the top of his voice if anyine tried to get on a piece of playground equipment he was on This is probably more embarassing than a child asking to get off.

Does she mix much with other children?

DS went through a period like this from around 18 months to 2. At the time we had very limited social contact as we had just moved to a new area and he was really unused to playing with other children.

I started him at Tumble Tots which was a nightmare to begin with but eventually he started relaxing a bit around the otehr children.

Then I started a new job and he started nursery - and the problem disappeared moreorless overnight.

He can still sometimes be a little timid with otehr children and if at the top of a slide will usually wait for all the others to go before he goes himself.

dd was much more anxious about competition (by which I mean other kids in 'her space') from other children when she was just 2 than she is now at 2.8....big change. I would just get her down, and try not to worry - she'll change as her social and physical confidence grow!

Oh thank you everyone!!! Brilliant!
Yes she does mix with other children and she seems fine for example at mother and toddler, but just doesn't seem to like competition either and seems very caring and gentle with the other kids so she's never pushy or anything.
I've actually spoke to my dad since and he told me that I used to be like that myself at her age so maybe she just takes after me!
