8 year old disobedience driving us mad

My 8 year old acts like a stroppy teen already. The worst battle at the moment is not going to/staying in bed. She is still awake now and it's 10pm and has been up and downstairs about 10 times going to the loo or having a drink etc. Any advice? We take toys away as a punishment but she just seems not to care. We are both exhausted and angry and I feel like a total failure...

No advice but just wanted to say that I feel your pain. DS is the same. My husband and I have no evening together at all.
This is an amazon link to a book we are going to try

Hope someone comes along with something more useful.

Please don't feel like a failure.
How much sleep does your DD get? Thanks

What is her routine like before bedtime? Does she get exercise during the day? Have you tried rewarding her for staying in bed rather than punishing for not doing so? Maybe she is scared of something, there was a thread yesterday about an 8 year old who is scared of being kidnapped.
