How long does cradle cap last for?

My DD has had it for about 3-4 months. Startle off using just olive oil and warm water and for the last few months have been using Dentinox but it doesn't seem to do much.

My four year old still has it.....I don't like to pick it off as i knew a baby whose entire scalp got infected through cradle cap, and she looked like a burns victim.....so now i leave it alone on my preschoolers and baby. I guess it can't last forever, and seems harmless in itself.

My 19 mo dd still has it but her hair has grown so you can't see it. She doesn't seem the least bit bothered by it.

My 8mo still has it but as a PP said, his hair covers it and it doesn't bother him. It's not fresh iyswim but just the dry flakes that need to peel away.

We use almond oil - put it on in the morning and then wash it out in the bath. Then use a fine comb through his hair and some the flakes that have been lifted by the oil just come out.

DS1 had a bit until he was just over 12 months, DS2 doesn't have much left, if any, at 14 weeks.

I tend to gently rub with a muslin and it comes off. I confess to a slight addiction actually, there was something very soothing about doing it!

7 years in the case of ds1. Repeated treatment for nits finally got rid of it but you don't actually need the nits just constant soaking in oil and combing it out!

Should add i did periodically treat it during the first 7 years but it kept coming back and ds1 hated all the sitting still/combing. The nits made this non negotiable.

DS is nearly 9 and it is (finally) starting to clear up now. It's been pretty bad but he has quite long hair, so you can't see it unless you look. I gave up on all the oily stuff in the end, and he's been using Vosene shampoo for the past year or so, which has really helped and every so often he sits very still for 30 minutes whilst I pick off all the really big lumps

I was shocked to find DTs still had it when they started playgroup at 3 yrs - they had very thick straight hair and I did not realise until I had to put it in a pony tail.

I tried things from the chemist with no result, and eventually went back to Johnsons Baby oil Mousse, massaged in several times during the day, then washed out and a bit of combing at bed time. With a bit more combing, they were entirely clear in a week.

They don't have it now (20)

My DS still has it and he's 7 nearly 8. Not noticeable unless you really look though.
