6.5 year old wetting the bed

It has lessened to not every night, now its maybe 2 or 3 times a week for 6.5 ds. He know not to have a drink past tea time and when he sticks to that he's generally fine. However he does sometimes help himself to drinks later (without me knowing) It doesn't seem to bother him that he wets the bed. I don 't really want to put him in pull ups as I feel thats a backward step. Any advice?

You're right pull-ups would be a step back. If he is a healthy little boy, then just roll with it. I used a small plastic bed sheet, with a cotton draw sheet over the top (like they use in hospital). I could then do a quick bed change, without having to removed the bottom sheet. I made a big effort to be really calm when it happened (even though the washer was going constantly).

Probably best not to put him in pull ups - it can lead to regressive behaviour (in my experience !). Perhaps get your DS help you with changing the bed in the morning? No punishment or harsh words (although this can be hard when you feel exasperated after a number of wet nights) but perhaps a discussion while you're changing the bed each time where you talk about having drinks after tea? Try to associate the consequence with the choice he's made, maybe? We eventually moved to using an alarm during one school holiday period (I even slept in his room to make it more effective) and have never looked back!

Is our DS afraid of the dark? my nephew had this prob, even in his early teens when he spent the night, he'd knock on my room door and ask me to put the lights on so he could go to bathroom. If he has gottenup through the night, has some1 been grumpy with him? could be anxious about something? I come from a violent back ground & I wet the bed up to around 10yr old because I was terrified to get up through the night.

Good point about being scared of the dark!

There is a light on in the bedroom and bathroom so its not a dark issue, we change the bed together and I 've discussed what drinks do after he's had his last drink. :(
