think dd has add?

i am 90% sure my dd2 age 4 has adhd have done several online symptom tests whilst consulting with a friend over answers sees dd on a weekly basis in diffetent situations and wanted a 2nd opinion on answers just to make sure i wasn exagerating answers iyswim and they all confirm that she has a definate issue with her attention and behaviour.

was just wondring how do go about geting her diagnosed etc as my health visitor has been unhelpful and sad that her behaviour was just attenton seeking and i had cused it

a few of my friends are nursery nurses and nannies etc and have said they are concerned about her behaviour

so how do i go about geting diagnosed

Can you not go and see your Doctor, maybe he would give you a referal

you can ask your GP. ADD or ADHD is usually dx via CAMHS so he will probably reffer you to them.

does your dd attend a nursary or playgroup? havethey noticed a problem with her behaviour?

If so they could call in an ED PSYch and they would be able to reffer to various other agencies.

yes she does go to nursery which is attatched to the school she will be starting in a couple of weeks

her behaviuor is noted at the nursery and although isnt as extreme can still be hard to handle there is 1 teacher she is very close to who tends to be able to deal with any situation dd throws at her or at least calm her down from it the other teachers try but have not effect other than winding her up more IYSWIM

and noone else can calm her from these major outbursts she has only this 1 teacher not even a friend or family memeber can do that

i did ask if she wanted to adopt her but she already has 2 children (only kidding)

have a serious chat with teh scho about her behaviour. if they are dealing with her then ask if they have picked up on any behaviour they find different for the other children.

ask if they would consider asking for someone to come and observe your dd like an Ed PSych. she will then be able to see if there is a problem that needs further investigation.

thats a good idea she will starting a new class in 3 weeks so will give her time to settle in to her new class and she wont be starting full time till after oct half term as only turned 4 3 weeks ago so they dont want them in full time till then so see how she goes first

If what she has is tantrums that only one person can bring her down from, it may not be ADHD. If she cannot sit still, keeps on doing things but seems unable to stop herself, is clumsy, runs away from people that are trying to engage with her, then it may. (Only may, mind). Does she concentrate on some things but not others? If that is the case it maybe that she is frustrated if she cannot manage something so she wants to do something else instead. What does this teacher do that is different to the others? Dont forget that kids usually wind their parents up more than anyone else! My advice would be to ask your GP for a referral to a paediatrician - if the paed thinks it is adhd or add they have a range of options for referral to for help - physio and occupational therapists can help if clumsiness or disorganisation is involved, speech and language therapists can help if there are difficulties with communication - this may not be her speech as such, but she may have subtle difficulties with understanding that make her frustrated. Seeing educational psychologist could also be useful, but most schools have quite a long waiting list and have to prioritise. Keep us posted, good luck!

hi fubsy no its not just tantrums actuly in the run of things they are prettymuch at the bottom of the list if you see what i mean

lack of concetration, not being able follow instructions or starts but cant carry through, not sitting still is a vast understament shes is dangerous verging on life threatning she runs out into roads (i try to take a buggy but shes so big in age 6 clothes and she starts schoolm in 3weeks so not really practical)she tries to jump on railway tracks when waiting for a train she put a chair up on the balconay on holiday and stood on it leaning right over the balcony even after severe tellings off talks and punishments still repeats

you can not leave her alone even bedtime is scary she jumps from the top bunk and i mean swing from the light shade and the curtain rail

totally scarry behaviour

cant go to friends houses as she beats up her 7 yr old boy and belive me he aint the whimpish type

she hit him with a plastic toy box and burst his lip open and she hit someone on the head at nurssery with awooden box

if this is normal behaviuor please help

Hi mad4girls - I'm not an expert but what you describe does sound like adhd, so the sooner you get a proper diagnosis the better. Only a paediatrician can prescribe ritalin or related drugs (don't panic, you should be given a chance to discuss the pros and cons.) I think clinical psychologists can recommend it too, but GPs can't, I believe. It's good to have a psych involved as if they think this can be dealt with by behaviour management, they will say so.

The media is full of anti ritalin articles, as obviously it doesnt work for evryone, but when a child is a danger to themselves, it can be a way to get through to them. Stay close to your school as well, as there are still a few schools with teachers that believe adhd children are just "naughty" but most will try to help as much as they can.

Also, try to concentrate on your daughters positive features - what does she enjoy doing, will she stay still or concentrate on certain activities or subjects, or even tv shows? Then you can use these to engage with her in a positive manner so you are not feeling as if you are always laying down the law.

(Before you think I sound like I am an expert on child behaviour, my dd aged 5 is probably about 2 steps away from adhd herself and can be a real sod at times - but I do know kids diagnosed with adhd and have seen how they react to treatment.) Your and schools management will need to be consistent too, whether or not she gets a diagnosis and drug treatment is recommended, as at the end of the day she still needs to learn boundaries and rules etc - these kids usually can, its just that they are so busy charging around that its not at the top of their agenda!

My brothers HADD, which also include all the things you have listed and a few more my oldest brother now 22 has two forms of HADD, Cant remember what the other one is called and one of my little brothers now 13 has HADD too, once you have got HADD confirmed then there is loads of support out there! [wink} Sounds like your stress and need a break love try and see if you can get DD to doctors and explain to him wont you have explain to us, he will be the best person to help you or put you in contact with someone that can!

i do know that dd does have some positive features she loves anything creative drawing painting colouring and playdough etc

and she pleads with me to do playdough just about everyday i try to let her do something she likes otherwise i feel like im permenatly moaning at her if you get my drift
