Teething. Paracetamol or Ibuprofen??

My daughter, 5mo, has started teething. She is in terrible pain so I want to give her something for it but I don't know what would be better, paracetamol or ibuprofen? Has anyone noticed a difference with them? Is one better than the other?

I always go for calpol first, but that's because I think it's gentler on their tummies.

But when you think about it, buprofen for inflamed gums must be good!

So not very helpful! Sorry.

Ibruprofen is definitely better. I've noticed a difference with the DC and the maxio facial doctors always tell you to take ibruprofen for dental pain speaks from painful experience.

Have you tried a teething gel like Dentinox? Some people swear by teething powders and amber teething necklaces but I haven't tried either of those. Smile

You can give both, each do different things paracetamol for pain or fever, ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory. So stick to the dosage and the number of doses in a 24hr period for your LO. Then you can alternate them calpol then three or four hours later nurofen. I would give nurofen at bedtime with DS's bottle as ibuprofen can be upsetting for the stomach so best to give it around the time of a bottle on a full stomach IYSWIM.

Both!!!

Ibuprofen
At night as i find dd's pain is worse.

Also nelson's teething powders have been a godsend.

DD1 - Calpol
DD2 - Nurofen ( seems to have no effect on DD1)

My point is, trial and error is how you figure it out. Good luck, it's horrid for them

Both.
Keep the four hours between doses.
E.g 2pm paracetamol
4pm ibuprofen
6pm paracetamol
8pm ibuprofen

Both!

Yep both, keep shovelling as much as you're allowed to in, staggered does give a good effect as the pain relief never wears off completely.
