Help!!! head butting toddler!!!

DD2 is 2y 3m old. Today she started a lovely new habit!! I told her off for climbing on the back of the sofa and launching herself forwards - not a bad telling off - just don't do that!! Anyway she burst into tears and then threw herself onto floor and started banging her head! DD1 never did this and I am at a loss! Do I tell her not to bang her head or do I not say anything in the hope that this will pass?? Ideas please!!!!

I saw something on one of the Baby Whisperer episodes where a toddler was headbanging. When they knew he was about to start she sat him down on a beanbag and stayed with him until he clamed down then gave lots of praise for calming down. Eventually he took himself off to the beanbag when he was upset or angry.

Sorry no suggestion but I know I was a head banger when I was a toddler (I was also tearing my hair out, I mean litteraly). Not sure what my mum did, not a lot I think because like you she really didn't know what to do. And it just stopped all by itself.
I would be carefull not give any 'reward' for this behaviour in the way of some attention, bad or good, when he is acting like that.

Hi ssm, my dd2 started this when he was about 18 months. I used to get so very upset when he did it, but the more I reacted the worse he got. In the end, hard as it was, I would walk away and ignore him, and not comment on the bumps and bruises on his forehead etc. It took a while but it did eventually stop just as suddenly as it started. Hope this helps, just hang in there - it does go away.
