What does your 9 year old non sporty ds enjoy?

My lovely ds is 9 and a half. He really isn't interested in sports or being outdoors. He has plenty of friends and enjoys it when we meet up with some and go to the park/ for a walk etc. He reads a lot of varied books but normally only in bed. He plays a musical instrument which he enjoys but doesn't love. He is doing well at school and is naturally pretty academic. However, he has little interest in anything other than Minecraft which he loves and talks about A LOT! I would really like to get him interested in other things but need some ideas. Thanks.

Erm I was going to say Minecraft is DS's favourite after sport. A friend's son has started making his own short animation films (if you are old enough think Morph style).

Lego, chess, war hammer (but 9 is a little young for war hammer).

My nephew hates sports. Has no interest whatsoever. He enjoys things like archaeology, space, dinosaurs, history. He reads a lot so has a lot of knowledge. He knows more than most adults about some topics. He goes to a science club and an archaeology club. However, recently he said he was interested in rock climbing after my brother took him to a climbing wall at a leisure centre so my sister has been looking into getting him into a climbing club. He found school difficult because he didn't like football and the other boys thought he was weird. Hes since been moved schools to one that excels in maths and science so hes happier with more like minded children.

Hes 12 now by the way but even at 9 his interests were the same.

DSS has never like 'sports' in the way they were offered at school, ie team games, as he wasn't confident enough in his abilities, he is quite slight and didn't enjoy the rough and tumble at all. However, he LOVES scouts (in particular hiking and camping), individual activities such as climbing, cycling and trampolining, likes a bit of woodwork, and anything techy.

You could be describing my 9 yr old DS too! He's physically able but hates competitive sport with a passion and I think it's this pressure that has put him off sport completely! He loves his bike though and does get exercise that way. Maybe you could things that take away from the feeling of being outdoors or being forced into team sports e.g. horse riding, karate or martial arts, ice skating etc. As long as he's keeping fit and healthy and enjoying it, it doesn't really matter what he's doing!
