That's it really, he seems obsessed with hitting his nappy where his willy is. I've no idea why he does it, but is that a thing i need to be aware of?

He's probably doing it for comfort. SImilar to some children who rub on cushions etc. Just distract him without mentioning it.

Quite a lot of small children are obsessed with their bits. I'd just ignore, and not make a big deal about it- he will grow out of it. My DS at 4 still sits and watches his telly with his hands down his pants. As he is a bit older, I do try and explain that it's more polite to do this when he's by himself - but it's almost involuntary for him, as if he really doesn't realise it!!

"My DS at 4 still sits and watches telly with his hands down his pants"

DH is thirty four and still does this Confused

Um, he's probably doing it because it feels nice Blush

Just ignore and/or encourage him to use his hands to do something else.

Thanks everyone, it's a fairly new development and i didn't know if it was normal or not

...just a thought but is it all the time or just every now and then? Wondering if he's becoming aware of having a wee? Worth leaving him nappy free for an hour or so with access to potty? (And might reduce the hitting if it's not protected by nappy padding!)

AMillionNameChangesLater · 13/05/2014 21:12

Oo good idea! I'll try tomorrow. He only does it every so often

He might just have an itch. I do think that once boys discover how much fun their willies are it's game over.

The only thing I'd check if it's a new development is that he's not got an infection and it's not hurting when he wees. Either cystitis or balanitis etc.

If he's all fine then yep, welcome to a fascination that will last a lifetime! Soon you'll be expected to be awestruck by how far it stretches, where it fits, what fits on it etc. I certainly was surprised the first time ds1 really stretched his with no apparent pain at all, but I've seen remarkable things since so very little surprises me.
