help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how can i get ds (5) to turn his volume down?

since he started school he has got louder, ok so he has had 6 months with alot of drastic changes arrival of new baby, dh at home due to bad accident and im caring for another child too.
I try to give lots of cuddles and give him my attention but the way he talks to the baby in a stupid voice is so loud and he squeals in everyones ears his grandad has refused to come over as he can't stand his volume. Iv'e tried the be quiet for 5 mins and 10 mins which he does then he goes back to his loudness again there doesnt seem to be any in between. he isn't deaf he hears everything even when you try to be quiet so he doesn't hear you he magically appears wanting to know what your doing.
i'm at my wits end and thinking of cutting his toungue out (ha ha only joking) but would like to know if anyone else has had the same problem and what they did about it.

my ds (also 5) is either deafening or asleep! It is often his high excitability! but it does jangle the nerves after a while- have no answers just wanted to sympathise!

ds2 (aged 4) is the same. I send him to his grandparents for the night so we get a rest He's worse when he's playing wiith ds3- they really seem to stoke each other up.

oh sympathys to you both too hopefully our fairy godmother will come one day and grant our wishes for normal volume children. at least we are lucky they are fit and healthy.
When he's good he's very very good but when he's bad he is HORRID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This saying couldn't be more true for my ds.

I think it may be a boy thing! My two are loud, boisterous and silly - and so is their Dad!

I've started telling my DS1 (who's also 5 - must be a 5 thing!) that I can't hear him when he shouts or if he talks too loud. Seems to work

I have a 5 yr old dd who is also very loud and is a mega chatterbox - and being a girl it is often very high pitched. I am constantly saying "ssshhhhhhh" to no avail.

I have a headache most days.

oh me too! Its not just boys tho. My 5 year old daughter never stops talking or singing even when she is alone and she is sooo loud. Her elder sisters are teenagers now and she isnt competing with them - and they certainly were not like this! At her first parents evening her teacher even asked me how I shut her up. I sort of stop listening after a while but then feel awful for ignoring her but its so wearing. She asks questions constantly and is so opinionated. And if I dont answer her question she just keeps asking it until I do. But she babbled all the time as a baby and it just turned into words. My sympathies to you all. Pass the ear muffs!

My ds1 is also a very loud little lad at 4.5 yrs old! We just let him get on with it at home but when out in public we are often telling him to use his 'quieter voice'!

my ds1 is very loud and we have tried lots of diffferent things with moderate success. i remember seeing a programme a couple of years ago where a woman lost her voice temporarily and said it was the best thing that had ever happened to her family as it calmed the whole house down as everyone compensated with turning the volume down - have found this useful though very easy to slip back into full volume. another thing we tried was using 'indoor' and 'outdoor voice' and labelling each time to use the appropriate one. i found some old mr men books including mr loud and mr quiet which did help.
you could always sign him up for the theatre/music/singing group so he can have a positive outlet for his big voice. its the thing about children being seen and not heard which makes me feel rather sad, as if quiet equates with being good. just think how spirited and dynamic he is and refuse to be embarrassed by other peoples reactions. babbling with baby is normal and most babies will respond with delight that someone is communicating with them. we also have no tv now and play radio very little which i think may have helped as he no longer has to compete with background noise.

ds2 has been doing stagecoach shrub and I think its made him louder I don't think he was that loud when you saw him...... he;s definitely worse around ds3. of course if I complain my mother says "well you'd be moaning if he couldnt talk like ds1" which of course I would. ds3 is shaping up to be loud as well- when they go out ds1 basks in the peace.

ds2 has a habit of shouting "I need some peace and quiet" which makes me laugh.

oh jimjams how are you? i was in plymouth the other week and was thinking of you. haven't been on mn as much as i would like - renovating house and trying to juggle 3 boys in the air has left me with very little little time to catch up.

ha ha know the feeling. I;m a bit stressed since having 3 as well- ds2 starts school next week so we must try and meet up sometime- I'll have a whole day free to come up to Totnes.

jimjams - having 3 children is the hardest thing i have ever ever done and also the best! one minute i'm thinking how lucky i am, the next i'm in tears of despair. tonight i told my 3 year old who was wanting another supper that 'mummy is closed'. i think about sleep all the time, yet when i have the opportunity i can't surrender.
