Hi there, my ds is 6 months tomorrow and I am panicking about going back to work and when to wean him off the breast. He's never taken a bottle and I have started giving him a tommee tippee free flow cup to drink from but only with water. I hate expressing and am just dreading going back to work in July as I don't know how he will cope, or me for that matter! Really need some help and advice. DH has said to stop worrying that he will get the hang of it in no time but I'm not so sure. I won't be able to express at work as I'm just too busy and won't be able to relax sufficiently anyway. Help!

Do you want to stop completely or would you be happy to feed when you are home, say morning and bedtime?

How old will he be when you return to work?

Depends on the baby.
Mine wouldnt take cup properly until 14m. The first one to work was a straw TT one.

I'd really like to continue feeding him to at least a year, he will be 10 nearly 11 months when i go back.

It shouldn't be much of a problem then. I went back with both of my bottle refusers at 9 and 10 months and continued Toby.

I'd be more worried about your risk of mastitis if you can't express at work speaks from experience...

Could you call one of the helplines and come up with a return to work plan with the BFC?

Don't know what's up with my ipad today, it keeps coming up with autocorrect random names,

I continued to bf. don't know who Toby is Smile

I'm in a similar position.

Ds is now 7 months. We are making progress with water in A TT cup. I'm offering 3 meals a day (blw style).

I'm planning to feed when I am around, prob early morning, at pick up and evening when Ds starts nursery at 11/12 months. I will get them to offer water and maybe 1 cup of cow milk while he is there.

That's the plan, let's see what baby thinks of it!

Maybe you could offer a cup of formula during the day as your baby will be that little bit younger?

Thanks for all the responses, hopefully we'll muddle through and find a way that works. Littleducks we are thinking along the same lines really, I want to feed him when I'm around, at least morning and evening feeds, but hope I won't get problems with mastitis at work. I guess my milk supply will have adjusted by then?

Hopefully!

I just remembered that I used a different style cup for milk with the others. We had TT free flow for water and one with a softer spout for milk. So it was obvious that it was milk from looking at it without having to taste.

Think it might just be worth talking it through with a BFC too, she might have some useful tips Smile
