2nd dry night for ds 7.4. Is this it?!

Ds has had very few dry nights in his life, and even fewer of these have been in a row.

At 5 he had his HUGE (surgeon said biggest he'd seen) tonsils and adenoids removed due to sleep apnea.
Dr had mentioned that his brain was so concerned about keeping him breathing, it didn't care if he wee'd but that this would likely resolve itself after surgery.
It did, for 3 nights.

Fast forward a couple of years solid of brick-heavy pants every morning (and occasional wet beds too despite pants), we are on our second morning in a row of bone dry pants.

I don't want to be too outwardly excited at home in front of ds as he can't control it, so I want to be excited here please!

Could this be it, or just a lucky streak?

Glad I've found this thread. DS is 6.3 and still in night-time pull-ups. He is starting to get self-conscious about it as my DD is 3.3 and now completely dry at night and out of her pull-ups.
We did speak to the doctor about it recently when visiting on another matter and they just advised lifting. Hmm.
Reading the thread I'm glad that I followed my instincts on that one and ignored that advice. I think we're going to go commando in the summer hols and see how it goes.

Lemonsole · 12/07/2014 12:31

Morning, Egg .
Three weeks into regression Hmm

Looking in vain for silver linings to this cloud at the moment, I've re-read our own thread, and we've only really had just over a week of our alarm working properly and doing its job, and of DS going to sleep at a sensible hour.

Last night it did at least have the decency to be an 11 pm and not a 2 am change, so DH had I reasonable kip after that.

But apart from that, no change. We know that it did happen, and for six weeks - but need to learn, too, that for some children perhaps we're going to be talking about a continuum towards dryness, rather than the state of permanence that we got used to with our DD. When he does "get it" again, we won't be taking it for granted for a long time.

my DS is 7.9; our story is a bit of a roller coaster up thread. Good luck to everyone else drying duvets today.

Poor DS is still rather fragile

Hello apologies for being AWOL but we were on holiday. The good news is that while we were away it was only the very last night that he was wet. Since then both nights have been dry. I happened to notice he was starting to wake up on the last two nights when I was passing his room on my way to bed so I asked him if he needed the loo and he went.

Whereisegg · 15/07/2014 08:33

MyChildren thats brilliant!
Lemon I can't tell you how much I want to read that your ds is back on track!

Doh! Wet last night. But he also took himself to the loo a couple of hours later. Dry nights are still outnumbering the wet nights thankfully.

Whereisegg · 17/07/2014 09:10

37 dry nights, I am still amazed every morning Smile

OP posts:
mychildrenarebarmy · 17/07/2014 09:35

Dry Tues night, then wet last night (but he did have a drink at 11pm when he woke up with a headache, and took himself to the loo at about 1am).

Whereisegg · 19/07/2014 10:44

I am in awe MyChildren, ds is yet to wake for the loo by himself.

39 dry nights though Smile Smile

Still very up and down here. Pretty even balance between wet and dry nights this month. :( and :) in equal measures.

Whereisegg · 26/07/2014 12:08

Oh no Sad it's so stressful, and seems never ending.

OP posts:
mychildrenarebarmy · 26/07/2014 14:23

I'm not finding it too stressful at the moment because drying the bedding is easy. Winter may be a different matter!

Lemonsole · 31/07/2014 14:12

I'm checking in again from my holiday. The holiday but is great; the nights bit isn't.

As we are camping we had to reluctantly put DS back into pull-ups. Hmm We simply can't afford the time or the 5 Euros a day to wash his sleeping bag. He's gutted, and his behaviour in general has taken a nose-dive. All related, I think. He's wet every morning, and we had to leave wet stop at home, as we didn't fancy waking up the entire site. Hopes that it would stabilise once he took the pressure off himself have so far come to nought. When we get home I'm tempted to leave him in pull ups, though it will break his heart, so that the night changes are shorter and he loses less sleep. Let's face it: the full bed change each night wasn't getting us anywhere, was it. I fear that the relapse is now nearly or as long as the dry six weeks. I don't want to mark the date, really.

Whereisegg · 01/08/2014 00:03

lemon, I have thought of you and your ds often and had really hoped you'd come back with a positive update Sad

Do you think the alarm can help him again?
I so hope it can.

Hey, that's great news - on all fronts.

We come home next Wednesday. His pull-ups have been soaking every morning, and he's occasionally woken up to wee in the morning. We weren't expecting much from very late nights and full-on active days, so we haven't been disappointed. Expectations low, and all that.

DS and I had a good chat the other day, and agreed that he would stay in pull-ups at home, as that was the route we were on when he did make it to "dry". I can see the need for them to wake up to learn the reflex, but the full bed change was keeping him awake for up to 30 mins, and it was leaving him simply too tired.

He's got a few hurdles to jump when we go back: friends coming to stay, and going to stay with Grandma: both of which will make him self-conscious and sad, as he had been so proud to tell MIL that he was dry. Hmm

mychildrenarebarmy · 13/08/2014 16:40

I may regret this come morning but we have just had a week of dry nights, preceded by one wet night and another 6 dry before that. Oh please, please, please can this be the turning point.

Whereisegg · 13/08/2014 16:59

lemon I missed your post Sad
I really hope you and your ds get back on track soon, there just doesn't seem to be a reason for such a huge setback.

MyChildren amazing! Fingers crossed for you!

Still dry here Smile
