Bed wetting - How much longer??!!

Its doing my head in now. My DS is almost 8 and still wets the bed at least 3 times a week. There has been no particular thing worrying him to make it start - it has just never stopped! He has had a blood test to rule out diabetes, but my doctor is crap and suggested we get him up another 2 times in the night to pee. we make him go before bed at about 8.30 and then get him up to go when we go about 11.30. I am now 35 weeks pg and think I might just as well stay awake all bloody night.
I have just thrown out another mattress, and the washing machine is going 10 to the dozen.
He is a really sporty little boy and when we try and wake him up at night, he is dead to the world, and so cannot imagine him getting himself up to go to the loo.
I am back using the pyjama pants to give me and my washing machine a breather. He hates these though, and hates wetting the bed. We never, ever tell him off, and just smile and say not to worry and he will grow out of it.
Sorry for long rant.
Any ideas?

Isn't there a plastic sheet sort of system that rings a bell to wake him up and go to the loo if he wees during the night?

Can you get your Dr or School Nurse to refer him to the Euresis (sp?) Clinic. My DS1 is 7 1/2 and has just started going, they have been really good, lots of ideas for helping him become dry and he is on a waiting list for a bedwetting alarm which they seem pretty certain will sort the problem.

Take him back to see the GP - or preferably a different GP at the practice who might actually take you seriously. Once they are over 7 bedwetting is seen as a medical problem and children can be referred to an eneuresis clinic for help.

I know all too well what you're going through.
Only i have an 8 year old and a 5 year old who wet their beds.

I took my 8yr old to the enuretic clinic at our local hospital and he was given a bedwetting alarm.

He never woke to it once!!!

Woke me up every night.

It even used to go off if he started to sweat, so they told me to put a towel on top of it.

In the end i just disconnected it, i was so tired.

I was told to wake him fully before taking him to the toilet.
When i tried to do this, he'd just lash out as he was so tired and wanted his sleep.

I have a mattress protector on the bed, then the sheet, then i bought some incontinent mats (that you can wash), from a specialist shop, as care mats were costing too much, and also wears a dri-nite pyjama pant (like a nappy).

As i have two children going through this it costs an absolute fortune.

It's not considered a medical problem until the child is 7.

My 8yr old also had the alarm that clips onto your pyjamas and then you have another part that you have to put between 2 pairs of pants.
Every time he moved the flipping thing came out.
