sounds totally normal! All part of exploring the world I think. It will end one day - for DS, eating soap was one step too far, and now he's a bit more cautious. You just have to watch out for anything dangerous or really yucky like dog/cat muck...

there was a thread abou this a few days ago, will try to find it, My son is 3 and still does it.

my ds is almost 23 months and is extremely oral. Apparently the majority of the sense receptors are int the mouth so that is why so many children explore objects using their mouth! I try to keep an eye on ds as it is now a game of show me it in his mouth and run away which can be very unsafe. If he is doing it for a reaction I try to give the minimal reaction I can though will confiscate it if unsafe. I comment when he isn't doing it by saying things like "I like the way you are using your hands to play with that" and when he is eating "Food is a great thing to put in your mouth, well done" It like so many other things is just another phase.. this too shall pass.

I think that you can not expect from a child to put things in their mouth before they are 3yo. It is a developmental stage so your dd seems to be just... on tack. Annoying but normal.
