Toddler tongue tie?

I'm starting to worry about my 16mo's speech.
He was born with a severe posterior tongue tie, which was cut when he was a month old.
Can they grow back? Does tongue tie effect speech?
All DS says is "hi" and I've never seen him stick his tongue out.

Yes, tongue ties can grow back and yes they can affect speech.

My ds1's tongue wasn't noticed until about 2yrs old (he had no problems feeding) but they refused to snip it even though he still wasn't talking. They said his speech delay was nothing to do with the TT.

He did eventually start speaking at around 3yrs old but it was never clear enough for anyone other than us to understand him. He had SALT who said he would catch up "in his own time"

Fast forward to now, he's just turned 5yrs old and a week before his 5th birthday he finally had it cut. It has made a Massive improvement to the clarity of his speech. He still needs SALT and will start again next week but he's so much better in his speech now.

Obviously the first thing you need to do is find out for definate if it has grown back and go from there. I would say to really push for it being snipped again if it has.

I can't imagine him not talking till 3!
I'm going to wait till he's 18mo, then ask a doctor or health visitor. It would be very hard to tell if the tongue tie has grown back though.
