9 week old does still not nap

Dd napped in crib for the first 2 weeks but now very rarely does and if she does is only for about 20-40 mins a couple of times a day. She doesn't really nap in her bouncer either or on anyone for very long even though she seems tired at times. She will sleep longer in the pram or car seat when out and about.

She sleeps well at night. She goes down about 7.30/8pm and wakes for the day 7.30/8am with feeds at roughly 2am and 5/6am.

Just wondered if anyone else has experiences a baby this young that does not really nap? Did you do anything to encourage naps? Did it change as baby got older?

There are days when we are at home where she will go all day on 2 20min naps. I just don't feel like this is sufficient.

We used to nap them in the pram, popped by the running washing machine* or back and forth over an old towel rucked up on the floor for gentle bumpiness, or in the garden under the leafy tree or yes a trot out round the block then home when asleep

Any good?

Obvs make sure baby is not cueing for a feed before trying to get a nap

hey madalie, that routine sounds really similar to DS's routine (10weeks). except that DS wakes every 2-3 hours at night.

During the day I've started holding onto him for 1-2 hours so that he stays asleep. E

Mine would only sleep on me or in a buggy/car seat during the day till 5 or six months.

(stupid phone)

Alternatively I take him out in his pushchair on long walks to get him to sleep, sometimes it works other times it doesn't Sad

my DD, now 20 months, was exactly the same at that age. Rarely napped during the day, 20 mins or so max but slept through the night mostly. I remember my hv being concerned and saying dd needed to sleep during the day. I had a stressful week or so trying to force dd to nap until I decided to just go with the flow and let her have a cat nap if that was all she wanted. That was the best thing for us as much less stressful and I knew she was getting the sleep she needed over night so realised I had no reason to worry. Figured that the sacrifice for having a good sleep over night was no rest during the day. So my advice is just do what's best for you and your wee one and try not to worry about what the 'norm' is or what other children do. Enjoy your sleep at night Smile
