Toddler falling backwards

My 13 month old son has started to walk, but when he loses his balance he falls backwards banging his head onto the floor. He does not use his hands to protect himself, nor does he bends his legs to fall onto his bottom. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Ds had a few tumbles when he started to walk, usually head first onto concrete!

Think its difficult for them to balance at this age as they have big heads relative to their body size so are top heavy.

I just held his hand a lot when on hard surfaces and let him go on grass etc. at home wasn't too bad as there was always something to hold onto nearby if he needed it.

Iirc he got better within a few months.

My son did this, would fall straight backwards and bang his head. I kept him out of the kitchen as that was the only hard floor. He did grow out of it after a couple of months and is a perfectly normal 13yo now!
