Only teething at night!

Is this normal? DS does teeth through the day but only gets a little morngey and some teetha settles him straight away.

However he's been going to sleep at 8 and then by 11:30 he seems to be screaming and won't stop crying at all no matter what I give him.
For the past two nights I have tried my hardest to settle him but he's ended up sleeping with me and stops crying and soon falls to sleep.

He wriggles a bit in the night and cries but is soon settled when with me.

Is this because it's comforting to have me there when he's teething or is he having me on and wants to get in my bed?

I'm getting to my wits end I'm exhausted as he's keeping me up all night and I'm worried I'm going to cause problems by letting me in my bed when he won't stop crying?

Mine are always like this. I count myself lucky that they're not miserable with it all day like some kids are. I suppose they notice it when there are no distractions? When DS was older we used to be able to tell he was teething when he suddenly started asking for ice lollies at midnight. (No we didn't give them to him!)

We cosleep, so obviously I don't think it does them any harm to be in my bed. What age is your DS? Sometimes they go through a phase of not wanting to be away from you at bedtime anyway, but it does seem likely they'd need more comfort when uncomfortable with teeth.

Could you try dosing up with something before bed? That's what we ended up doing for DD today as she just couldn't settle. Last child, last tooth, hurrah! assuming when they get around to adult teeth they can look after themselves...

He's in pain so wants the comfort. They don't have teething symptoms so much in the day because they're distracted. It's impossible for him to be 'having you on', he's a baby! Cuddles with mummy are lovely and comforting and if it means you all get some sleep, go with it (and enjoy the lovely sleepy cuddles) :) don't worry about future problems, IME there's no long term issue.

He's 7 months and he's tired me out something ridiculous these past few days!

Even when he's had calpol before bed it doesn't seem to help him through the night. He wakes up constantly screaming and getting worked up.

It must be the teeth really, because he's a perfect sleeper 90% of the time.
I'm just shattered and panicking he will end up not settling in his cot anymore, co sleeping isn't for me, I can't get comfy or sleep properly!

It just surprises me how he goes from screaming to fast asleep as soon as I bring him in here. But like you say as long as we get some sleep it's worth it

He seems to be teething really bad this time compared to others to I'm hoping to see some teeth soon it'd be lovely!
I'll be pestering him 24-7 for a big smile to see it if he gets one haha

That'd be quite a common age for separation anxiety to kick in too. Or a growth spurt, tho I'd guess not that if he's settling without feeding.

Whatever it is, I can guarantee it's a phase

I find nurofen better for night. Calpol makes DD hyperactive so i use disprol

They are distracted in the day, but lying all alone with pain at night always seems worse, even as an adult!

actually when you are asleep the muscles relax, so the teeth that are slowly but constantly moving have less resistance - so to speak.

hence the pain at night being more intense, and lots of discoveries of tiny teeth in the morning!
